I was watching the news on television a few nights back and I saw a story about the children of Congo in Africa. Evil men, posing as prophets, would tell a family that one of its children had a devil. The false prophet would then charge the family a huge fee to exorcise the demon out of the child. The process was often cruel and sometimes would result in the child's death, according to the report. What amazed me (besides the blatant cruelty) was that the families believed these evil men. If they had known the truth, they would have known that these men were liars. But, these people believed that these evil pastors were doing God's will. It was terrible and horrible to watch.
There are religions all over the world, in the United States, that are in darkness because they don't know the truth. There are people living wretched lifestyles because they don't know the truth. There are people living lies, constantly hiding, living behind masks, because they are scared to reveal the truth.
What all these groups need to know is that truth is nothing to be feared. The truth will set you free. It's such a simple concept, and yet often we find ourselves scared to face the truth. The truth only brings peace and freedom. In any situation, no matter how big or how small, by just telling the truth, a spirit of freedom and peace will enter. It's a very simple principle of God's and it is beautiful to live.
"Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding." Proverbs 23:23
Whatever the cost, buy the truth. You won't believe how it will lift your life from oppression. There is no better way to say it than the simple words of our Lord, "The truth will set you free."
