"Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God." Psalm 84:3
Back to "Listen to God's Lessons"
Many of us are familiar with "altar calls" and praying for people we've never seen before. We don't always know why these people come to the altar for prayer, but we've prayed for them. Sometimes we pray for them, it seems nothing happens, we go sit down and move on.
Don't stop praying for them. Keep those people in prayer at the altar of your heart. The altar of God is no longer a stationary object. We are the temple of God, our hearts the altar. Keep those people on the altar of your heart. Keep praying for them. It's wonderful to be in service to God. It's so blessed to serve Him. Just remember, you are the tabernacle. You can be serving God in the tabernacle all day long. It doesn't have to be in a building that is called "church." If you have obeyed God and are filled with His Spirit, you are the church. You are the courts of God.
"My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God." Psalm 84:2
You are the house.
"Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah." Psalm Psalm 84:4
Most of all: keep praying for those people. They made a step toward God. They are seeking His help. Just think, you can be of service to God by praying for them. Don't stop praying for them because the altar call is over. Don't stop praying for them because the church service has concluded. Keep them on the altar of your heart and pray for them. Even if it was someone a few years ago, pray for that person.
"For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness." Psalm 84:10
If you have God's Spirit, you are those courts. You can be a doorkeeper all day long by praying for those in need and helping to usher them into the kingdom of God.
